Let’s talk about Maryland fishing!

Special thanks to Maryland Kayak Outfitters for sponsoring this week’s podcast.  Maryland Kayak Outfitters is now booking guided kayak fishing or daily and seasonal rentals on their fleet of pedal drive fully rigged kayaks on St. Leonard Creek in southern Maryland. Head over to to find out more.

Let’s take a look at what’s going on around the state.

Snakeheads are turning on with the warm sunshine - big minnows under bobbers in any of their usual haunts are a good shot.  It might be hit or miss - but they are there and turning on.

Early spring pre-spawn largemouth are showing up in good numbers.  Black/blue jigs and chatterbaits fished slow and low.
Yellow perch are spawning out - get on them before they are dispersed again.

Best bet for bait is minnows.

Yellow perch can be expected to spawn at water temperatures ranging from 48 degrees to 54 degrees. At cooler water temperatures the perch tend to sit in the deeper pools waiting for a flood tide to move farther up the rivers and creeks.

Cut bait for catfish in their usual haunts.
